Aftercare for Hair Wax Face Results (First 72 Hours)
By African Hair Braiding by Fama | July 27, 2026
Our biggest rule after our $25 Razor or Wax Facial Hair Removal add-on (25 minutes) in North Hollywood is simple: keep the skin calm. That means cool, clean, and hands off for the first 24 to 72 hours. If you do one thing, do this: skip heat, sweat, sun, and makeup until the redness settles, because that’s what usually turns a smooth result into bumps.

A lot of our North Hollywood clients want quick, camera-ready recovery for auditions, shoots, and night shifts. Good aftercare is what gets you there. We’re known for being fast and detail-focused, and this is the part that protects that clean finish once you walk out the door.
0–24 hours: keep facial hair removal calm, cool, and clean
Right after face facial hair removal, your skin is more reactive than usual. Tiny bits of irritation are normal. What you do tonight decides if you stay smooth or wake up with angry redness.
Quick reset: If you feel heat or sting, hold a clean cool compress on the area for 5 to 10 minutes. No rubbing. Just gentle pressure.
Do this
- Wash your hands before touching your face. Better yet, don’t touch it at all.
- Cleanse with a gentle, fragrance-free face wash and lukewarm water. Pat dry with a clean towel.
- Use a simple fragrance-free moisturizer if your skin feels tight. Keep it light.
Skip this for at least 24 hours (often 48 in summer)
- Hot showers, steam rooms, saunas, and hot yoga.
- Heavy sweating and hard workouts. North Hollywood heat makes this harder, so plan easy movement for the day.
- Swimming pools, hot tubs, and ocean water if the skin is still tender.
- Makeup over the area, especially full coverage foundations and setting sprays.
- Picking at little bumps or pulling at hairs. That’s how you get scabs and dark marks.
24–48 hours: when irritation usually shows up (and how to stop it)
This is the window where people start testing their skin without meaning to. One hot shower, a little scrub, a quick gym session, then the bumps appear. If you’re coming in from Burbank, Toluca Lake, Valley Village, Studio City, Sun Valley, or Universal City and you need reliable recovery between shifts, this is the part to take seriously.
Keep it simple
Stick with gentle cleanser, lukewarm water, and a basic moisturizer. If you’re out near the NoHo Arts District or the Vineland corridor, protect the area from sun and heat. If the skin looks calm and closed, you can start using SPF when you’re outdoors.
SPF note: We like mineral, fragrance-free sunscreen on freshly sensitive skin once it’s not open or stinging. Sun plus irritation is a common reason redness lasts longer.
Hold off on “active” products
Skip retinoids, AHAs/BHAs, strong vitamin C, benzoyl peroxide, and scrubs for 48 to 72 hours. Mixing those with fresh waxing or shaving is one of the fastest ways to get dryness, burning, and patchy flaking.
48–72 hours: prevent ingrowns without over-exfoliating
By day three, most people feel “back to normal” and want to do everything at once. Slow down. Ingrown hairs tend to come from friction, clogged pores, and trying to force exfoliation too early.
What to start (if your skin is calm)
- Light, gentle exfoliation 1 to 2 times a week. Think soft washcloth pressure, not gritty scrubs.
- A breathable moisturizer to keep flakes down, especially around the upper lip and chin where skin gets tight.
- SPF daily if you’re outdoors. North Hollywood sun plus fresh skin is a recipe for lingering color changes.
What to keep avoiding
- Picking, squeezing, or “digging out” an ingrown. That’s how you get a scar.
- Heavy oils and thick balms that trap heat if you’re already prone to bumps.
The low-drama product routine we like for male and female face waxing
You don’t need a dozen products after male face waxing or female waxing facial hair. You need the right few, used at the right time. If you’re acne-prone or easily irritated, the “simple on purpose” routine usually wins.
Cleanser: fragrance-free, no exfoliating beads, lukewarm water only for the first day.
If it leaves you squeaky tight, it’s too strong for right now.
Moisturizer: lightweight, fragrance-free, applied with clean hands.
Think comfort, not shine.
SPF: mineral and gentle once the skin is calm and closed.
If you’re out walking around the NoHo Arts District, this matters more than you think.
And if you’re dealing with a sudden flare, a short, cautious use of aloe or a thin layer of 1% hydrocortisone can help calm redness. Keep it short-term. If you’re not sure, ask us before you keep applying it.
Red flags vs normal: when to reach out to our North Hollywood team
A little pinkness, mild tenderness, and a few tiny bumps can happen after razor or wax facial hair removal. What we don’t want is escalating pain, spreading heat, pus, or a reaction that keeps getting worse after the first day.
- Reach out if you notice swelling that’s increasing, crusting that looks infected, or intense itching that won’t calm down.
- Reach out if you’re getting repeated ingrowns in the same spot. We’ll talk through timing, product choices, and what to change next time.
“The Team at this salon is fast and efficient. Ive come on multiple occasions and always experience quality work with an attention to the details. I will be back.”
