Pre Shampoo Oil Treatment Aftercare: What to Do After a Shampoo, Conditioner Treatment (48‑Hour Rules)
By African Hair Braiding by Fama | September 14, 2026
I hear this all the time after an appointment in North Hollywood: “Best hair wash ever.” And I love that. The fastest way to keep that fresh, soft feeling is simple: give your hair a full 24–48 hours before you wash it again or work up a heavy sweat. Those first two days are when your Shampoo, Conditioner Treatment really settles in.

Quick refresher: My Shampoo, Conditioner Treatment is 75 minutes ($90). If you want blow dry and detangling added, it’s $25 extra. If you’re in the North Hollywood, Vineland corridor just east of the NoHo Arts District, this is an easy add-on when you need your hair to behave for a full week.
The first 24–48 hours: the rules that keep the softness
The first two days are about protecting what I just put into your hair. In North Hollywood, heat and dry air can pull moisture fast, so those first 48 hours matter even more than you think.
- Don’t wash for 24–48 hours. No shampoo, no co-wash, no “just rinse.” Water alone can lift product before it finishes settling.
- Skip heavy sweating. If you have to work out, keep it light and keep your scalp as dry as possible. Sweat plus friction at the roots is what usually messes with that fresh, clean feel.
- No pools or ocean. Chlorine and salt water strip conditioning fast. I recommend waiting until after the 48-hour window at minimum, longer if you want the result to last.
- Avoid direct high heat. Put the flat iron down for 48 hours. If you must blow dry, keep it low heat and don’t hover on one section.
- Keep styles loose. No tight ponytails, slick buns, or anything that pulls. Right after conditioning, hair is softer and can stretch more than you realize.
Commute-friendly tip: If you’re heading back to a studio shift near the NoHo Arts District, keep a soft scrunchie and a light scarf in your bag. It cuts down wind friction without smashing your roots.
If you’re time-pressed and your schedule is tight, I get it. A lot of people come to me because they want quality work done fast and efficient. These rules are the easiest way to keep that “I just got my hair done” look without extra effort.
Days 3–7: keep the moisture, avoid the sneaky stuff
Once you’re past the 48-hour mark, you can live normally again, but a few habits will make your treatment last longer. This is the week when people usually tell me they feel “pampered” because their hair stays soft without constant fixing.
Sun, wind, and dry air in North Hollywood
Late-summer North Hollywood tends to be hot and dry, and the wind can rough up the cuticle fast. If you’re outdoors a lot, cover up with a hat or scarf, or use a UV-protecting hair spray if you already have one you like. The goal is less dryness and less tangling, especially around your ends.
Detangling without breaking your hair
Detangle gently when your hair is damp, not dripping wet. Start with fingers, then a wide-tooth comb. And don’t rush. Rushing is usually what turns a small knot into a big one.
Sleep protection that actually helps
A silk or satin pillowcase reduces friction, which helps hold onto the smoothness you feel after your Shampoo, Conditioner Treatment. If you already sleep in a bonnet or wrap, keep doing it.
Shampoo and deep conditioner choices that won’t strip your result
Product matters most on your first wash after your appointment. I recommend gentle, sulfate-free shampoo and a lightweight conditioner that gives slip without leaving a heavy coating.
For shampoo conditioner for keratin treated hair: stick with sulfate-free and avoid clarifying shampoos for the first several washes. Clarifying formulas are great sometimes, but right after conditioning they’re usually too aggressive.
For shampoo and conditioner for colour treated hair: choose color-safe, sulfate-free. Hot water fades color and dries hair, so keep your water warm, not steaming.
For a pre shampoo hair treatment or pre shampoo oil treatment: go light. A few drops on the ends is usually enough. Keep oil off the scalp if you get buildup easily, and don’t do it before your first post-appointment wash.
After you’re back to regular washing, a leave-in conditioner that feels lightweight is your friend. Heavy creams can feel nice for a day, but they also tend to attract dust and lint, especially if you’re moving around between locations in Studio City or Universal City.
Heat tools after a conditioning service: when it’s fine, and when it’s too much
After 48 hours, you can use a blow dryer or flat iron again, but I want you to do it in a way that protects what we just did. High heat is one of the quickest ways to dry out hair that was feeling soft and easy.
- Use a heat protectant. Don’t skip it, even on low heat.
- Use low to medium heat most of the time. Save high heat for rare moments, not daily maintenance.
- Limit passes. One slow pass beats three fast ones.
If you add blow dry and detangling with me, I’ll talk you through what I’m seeing in your ends and how often heat makes sense for your hair, especially if you’re already working long days under studio lighting.
When to reach out to me (and how I’ll help fast)
If something feels off after your Shampoo, Conditioner Treatment, I want to know. A little shed hair during detangling can be normal. Mild scalp sensitivity can happen if you’re already dry. But intense itching, burning, or a reaction that worries you is a reason to reach out right away.
People come back to me because I pay attention to the details and I take the time to make sure you’re happy. I’m also big on being respectful of your schedule. If you need an aftercare refresher or a quick check-in, I’ll keep it simple and practical.
"Khady did my hair today, and she did an amazing job!!! Always smiling, and nice. Her technique was amazing, and she took the time even after hours to make sure I was happy. Will come back for sure !!"

Local note: These aftercare tips work the same for my neighbors coming in from Burbank, Toluca Lake, Valley Village, Studio City, Sun Valley, and Universal City. If you’re in and out between shifts near the Vineland corridor, stick to the 48-hour rules and you’ll usually keep your result looking fresh longer.
