Get answers to common questions about Interlock Maintenance (50 Locs).

Most clients schedule interlock maintenance every 4–8 weeks depending on hair growth, scalp condition, and desired neatness. Faster growth or heavy frizz may need shorter intervals; mature locs can stretch timing. We’ll recommend an ideal schedule during your consultation.

Properly performed interlocking should not cause hair loss. When done gently it secures roots without unnecessary tension. Pre-existing damage or overly tight technique can contribute to thinning, so we assess each client and adjust tension accordingly.

Appointment length typically ranges from ninety minutes to three hours for fifty locs, depending on tightening needed, loc thickness, and any repairs. We provide a time estimate when booking and aim for efficient, careful work to respect your schedule.

Yes—clean hair is preferred. Please wash and fully dry your locs before arrival, avoiding heavy oils or conditioners that leave residue. Clean, product-free locs allow better interlocking and more accurate assessment of roots during the appointment.

Interlocking tightens the root area to secure locs, but it isn’t meant to make locs permanently smaller. We customize tension to avoid over-tightening and preserve volume; discuss preferred tightness so we can match your comfort and style goals.

Aftercare favors lightweight, residue-free products: a clarifying shampoo, light oils like jojoba or grapeseed, and moisturizing sprays. Avoid heavy waxes or petroleum products. Regular gentle scalp cleansing and minimal product buildup prolong interlock results and scalp health.
