Get answers to common questions about Starting Locs.

Installation time varies by hair length and density but typically takes three to six hours. Complex parting, multiple techniques, or extra long hair can extend the appointment; we’ll give a precise estimate during booking.

We recommend at least two to three inches of natural hair to form secure starter locs. Shorter hair may still be started using specialized techniques like coil or interlocking; your stylist will assess texture, length, and recommend the best option during consultation.

Yes. Starting Locs includes a professional shampoo and scalp cleanse at the start of your appointment to remove product buildup and prepare hair for neat, long-lasting loc formation. We use gentle, residue-free products formulated for textured and natural hair types.

Gently cleanse and moisturize with light, residue-free products; avoid heavy waxes. Sleep on a satin pillowcase or use a satin bonnet. Keep retwists spaced appropriately and follow your stylist’s recommended maintenance schedule to prevent thinning or breakage.

Initial maintenance varies but most clients return every four to eight weeks for upkeep. Early check-ins can address tension, frizz, or loose roots; your stylist will suggest a personalized schedule based on hair growth rate and lifestyle.
